End.

Hi all,

i started this blog cause i wanted to promote culture, and in this case, musical culture, with a special view on italian stuff. This is what i do anyway in my job as journalist, reviewing famous or unknown albums, doing interviews to Vince Clarke or to Humour Malade, just to say 2 estreme positions.

The same focus i want to keep also with the mailorder, i wanted to start something concrete here in Italy to promote our dear labels that we love and we jump from the chair everytime we see a new release, i wanted to test with my hands/money/time if there's really a possibility for these labels also here in Italy, if the persons want to buy after the listening, if they are 'real' or 'fake'. As i expected...some are real...some are fake...but i think that nobody will never say a word against the fact that THANKS TO the Flexi and Complex compilations, the rippers on slsk/blogs, a lot of these bands can now live a second life.

In fact another point that i would like to clarify is that for me is very important to NOT RIP the things that r still available to buy (in stock) from the Labels we all like. They do a great and difficoult job, with a small quantity of copies, they simply have to survive to print other things.

In the ripping also i saw with my personal experience as ripper there are at least 2 negative effects. (and im ripping before this blog, i'm a soulseek user since 2001/02 and i was a napster user since 98/99, so are 10 years of ripping):

First, The ripping is increasing day by day the prices of records .. 5 / 6 years ago bands as the Factory or Schleimer K, just to do two examples, where not so "famous" as now, and it was possible to buy them for a normal price and of course somebody is winning a lot of money on the old records, just checking the Ebay auction prices and searching the names on their local shop/sellers.

Second, a new generation of so called 'experts' is born. They just download some data files from internet (that we call mp3) and they think they know all about music, not even buying the records when are out, not supporting the good labels as Annalogue, Minimal Wave, Clogsontronics, Brouillard Definitif and the others. For me this is simply crazy.

So..

THANKS to the stupids downloaders with no interest in our beloved music

THANKS to the new experts that are able to teach us  everything doing DISINFORMATION everywhere, talking about a music that they dont know even what is it

THANKS to who is even selling the mp3s that i ripped

THANKS to the thiefs that are doing a business on our beloved music (again)

..the blog will be closed, 'till something in the people's mind will change.

yours,

Peter M.

Thank you so much for the beautiful music that you've shared with us and I'm so sorry that there are so many idiots in this world that make it hard for people that truly do care.

I wish you all the best, nothing less.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thankx for the great music :)!!! I think it is a pitty that you stop with it, because otherwise no one ever heard about this music...

Good luck!

well, that blows, but what can I say. I've gotten so much great music here, one of my regular daily stops. A lot of excitement getting to listen to all of the great tunes you have have featured here. Maybe you'll reconsider...

Anonimo ha detto...

man, that is a bitter post. I have been coming to your blog regularly since I found it, to learn about music, the aesthetic is spot on what I am feeling, most of the releases you've featured here were new to my ears and I've digged nearly everything. You may or may not realize that a lot of people really dig what you've done here and come back time and time again to take in a musical lesson. Hope you'll reconsider; or at least not have a bad feeling about what you have done here......it's been a very good thing, although the result may not have been what you originally intended.

capisco le tue ragioni, anche se non sono d'accordo su ogni punto. spero che torni presto sulla tua decisione, perché questo blog è fondamentale.

grazie per il gran lavoro fatto finora, e a presto.

You'll be missed. Are you not even considering a private blog?

Grazie tanto!

thanks for the awesome blog. i love coming here and reading about the bands. so much stuff i wouldn't have known otherwise. still, i have to say, if you're waiting for people to begin paying for things they can steal for free, then this blog will never become active again. sadly, nobody gives a shit. too bad. thanks again for the great info!

I also hope to see the mannequin mailorder do well. Thanks for all of your efforts. I also liked the worked with mushi you did,by the way. Be well friend.

I thought I knew a bit about music, but the blogs, yours in particular, have opened my eyes to a vast range of unsuspected treasures. Especially to non-Anglo music that I had no way of knowing about in 1983.

I'm really sorry you've decided to stop. I agree with everything you say but somehow I'm not as pessimistic about it all.

I was sad to read this post as this blog has unveiled some fantastic music that I would have otherwise not heard of and still think there might be more out there in the world of "7" from the underground" to be discovered. It's such a shame, but I support your decision. Hope you will return some day though. Thank you for all the beautiful music and all the best!

Thanks for all of the excellent records you've posted over the years. I discovered a lot from your posts. While it's true that many so-called "experts" are created from downloading off the internet, there are also some people who become true fans of the music and seek to buy any reissues that may come out (especially on vinyl). For every 25 casual fans who download an album for free, perhaps one person will purchase that album if it's rereleased. While that may not sound like much, just imagine if the songs were never made available for download in the first place - the music may never have been rediscovered at all, and an audience for reissues and rereleases would never have even existed to begin with.

Anonimo ha detto...

I had the same feelings myself, espeically about these new so called "experts". Where were these experts just two or three years ago? Two or three years ago, they were probably "experts" of some other scene they were jumping. Or they were listening to Animal Colletive and all that weak modern "indie rock" (if there is such a thing) garbage.

Posers eventually invade everything and ruin it.

And I must say, while a lot of these obscure 80s bands were happy to have their music rediscovered and downloaded to a new generation of fans...more fans than they ever had before in their life. Some of them took that rediscovery and actually got a little bit greedy with it and thought there was a big goldmine of profit in the future for them or they used this redicovery as some shameless self promotion. I thought that after all those years of being obscure they would be more humble and happy but a lot of them turned out to be the same jerks they were back then.

Is there a certain group or "expert blog" that is getting on your nerves? Who is it? Just forget about them, two years from now they will jump into another musical scene. Two years from now they will be listening to something like stoner rock or some ska revival..whatever will be trendy then.

I hope you keep your blog open. Stay true to what you dig. And if you want to say something negative about the poser experts that you hate, then just go ahead and say it on your blog. You are a journlists, so go ahead and write what you are feeling. The true fans of 7" from the Underground will understand and relate to what you are saying because all of the real fans of your blog understand where you are coming from and agree with you. This music is not just some record collecting hobby to the real fans, we take the music seriously as you do.

Stay open. Stay real.

thanks
Rico

this is too bad. a lot of this stuff is really hard to find. been exposed to a lot of good music here.
(although i also like animal collective and music from a thousand other places (in response to "rico"'s righteous post).)

for me, i buy 1 or two records a week, it's all i can afford. i see bands play every weekend and try to support their touring efforts.
believe me i wish i had the money to buy every single album i owned and the time to research the history of each of those bands and those labels.

i guess just try not to be so bitter about people enjoying music who aren't dedicated to a specific scene or their too young to understand how hard people work to get this stuff realized.

as for the "experts", some people (probablay me..) have eyes bigger than their head. i wanna know it all, i just can't retain it,\and the internet makes it all so available. warehouse of culture.
and while one day i can't get enough italian post-punk the next i feel like african garage rock is the most ridiculously amazing thing i've ever heard.

it's just people loving music and trying to explore it.
sorry for the rant/ramble.
thanks!

unbelievable- i can't believe people are selling mp3s of the records you've uploaded. that's incredibly frustrated, and all in all, i am sad to see this blog go.

do keep in touch, and may your efforts to promote and encourage the continued support of great artists carry on, even in memory.

I find the comment about the new "experts" a little harsh. I have increased my knowledge of certain genres and previously obscure artists and labels, and have willingly shared my findings. Would I self-identify as an expert? Hell no, and who has? I've heard this charge before, a backlash against a fragment of mp3-driven experts that doesn't actually exist.

These experts are likely the ones that start blogs, introduce their own swath of musical knowledge, and continue the sharing atmosphere that has allowed labels like Minimal Wave to exist at all. I purchase from MW, Kernkraft, Borft, et al, and will continue to. I will also continue to download music from blogs, tell others about them, and contribute where I can.

Also, please consider that people who comment on share-blogs are a small sample of the people that utilize them. As things go, the inane, foolish, and hyperbolic tend to be the loudest. I hope I haven't fallen into one of those categories.

Finally, thanks for the 7-inches.

I'm not a simply downloader. I'm a promoter to old (and good) bands.

I don't make money with my blog. My only objective is promote the good music here in my country. Those albuns are not availabe here.

And, finally, if I "stolen" something, YOU "stolen" too... Because those bands are NOT your bands.

Thanks for the good music...

But, remember, "smart guy" I never sell, trade, locate or anything in my blog... Everything is free. As I told, my objective is promote the good music. Now, if you're a puritan, you must stop to uploading compacts from other artists... If you are angy, call the police, maybe WE'll arrested together, pirate or ripper?! And more: you are DJ? Do you pay to artists to play their musics?

Do your job and let me do my job...

Again, thanks for the good music.. And I'll apreciatte if you stop to attack me.
